About This Site

Top Women's Beauty is written by a former department-store beauty counter manager who got tired of watching women spend money on products that did nothing. We test skincare, sunscreen, haircare, makeup and beauty tools on real skin over real weeks, then tell you what worked, what did not, and who should skip it. Some links on this site are Amazon affiliate links, which never change what we recommend.

Skin Safety

Patch test every new skincare, sunscreen or hair product before full use: apply a small amount to the inside of your forearm or behind your ear and wait 24 to 48 hours. Stop using any product that causes burning, swelling, hives or a rash that does not settle, and rinse it off with cool water.

Keep mascara and other eye products away from the eye itself, never share them, and replace mascara about every three months, since an old tube can carry bacteria. Stop and see a doctor if your eyes become red, painful or swollen. Silicone cleansing brushes should be used gently on clean, unbroken skin, washed after every use, and kept away from active breakouts, sunburn or broken skin.

Sunscreen only protects when enough is applied and it is reapplied about every two hours outdoors, and more often after swimming or sweating. Nothing on this site is medical advice. If you are pregnant, nursing, being treated for a skin condition or using prescription skincare, check with your doctor or dermatologist before adding a new product.
